Understanding DWI Reg 31 Approval hero - Protect public health, meet industry regulations

When it comes to installing water mains and service pipes, there’s no room for compromise. After all, these pipelines carry our most essential resource – drinking water. That’s why, at PE Pipeline Specialists, we make it our mission to supply only the highest quality pipes that meet the strictest standards. One of the key certifications we’re proud to hold is DWI Regulation 31 approval. But what exactly does this mean, and why is it so important?

DWI stands for the Drinking Water Inspectorate, the organisation responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of drinking water in England and Wales. Regulation 31 is part of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations, which ensure that any products and materials used in public water supply systems do not contaminate the water.

In simple terms, Reg 31 approval guarantees that the materials used in the manufacture of our pipes are safe for use in contact with potable (drinking) water. Pipes, fittings, coatings, and associated products must undergo rigorous testing to verify that they won’t leach harmful substances into the water supply.

Public Health Protection

Water travels a long way before it reaches your tap. Without proper material standards, there’s a risk of chemicals or contaminants entering the water during this journey. Reg 31 approval ensures that pipes will not compromise water quality, keeping the supply safe for consumers.

Water companies across the UK demand products with Reg 31 approval for any pipework connected to the public supply network. Using approved products avoids costly rework, delays, or regulatory issues.

When you choose Reg 31 approved products, you’re choosing confidence in the quality and integrity of your infrastructure. For specifiers, contractors, and end-users, it’s reassurance that they’re working with products that meet stringent, recognised safety standards.

At PE Pipeline Specialists, we go beyond Reg 31. All of our water mains and service pipes hold DWI Reg 31 approval, as well as BS EN 12201-2 and WRAS approvals — providing a complete suite of certifications to ensure safety, durability, and compliance across the board.

So, whether you’re working on a new installation or upgrading existing infrastructure, you can buy with total confidence from PE Pipeline Specialists.
