PE Pipelines to be distributors of FM fire pipe and fittings

Posted: 1 August 2022

A range of pipes and fittings to be made available by PE Pipelines has passed stringent safety and quality standards for below-ground fire service piping. The manufacturer, SIMONA, worked tirelessly to become the first worldwide plastics producer to provide Factory Mutual (FM) pipes and fittings up to 630 mm in diameter in 2014. They have grown from strength to strength as a global market leader ever since.

The SIMONA® PE 100 FM-Line Pipe and Fittings range with FM approval has high strength and exceptional stress crack resistance – ideal for use in below-ground fire service supplies, where products experience notoriously strong loading forces. Pipes, long and short spigot fittings, and flanges up to 630 mm in diameter made of high-quality PE 100 comprise part of the range. The standards for products designed to protect against natural catastrophes and fire has been set by U.S. insurer FM Global. SIMONA products passed the insurer’s stringent tests in 2014 to receive FM certification.

Why use PE Pipes?

PE pipes used in underground firefighting systems have a long service life, have corrosion resistance, and are cost-effective. Because of their different properties PE-based piping systems are ideal for the supply of fire extinguishing water, outperforming many piping systems made of other materials.

FM Certification

The FM certification on SIMONA products supplied by PE Pipelines assures plant operators of consistently high-quality standards, from a company respected around the world. Also, better insurance policies are often available for plant operators who excel in this area.

All the pipes, flanges, and both short and elongated fittings are made from premium-quality PE100. They combine stress crack resistance to an excellent standard with high impact strength.

PE is used because it is the perfect material for subsurface water supply systems designed for firefighting purposes, an area in which products are generally exposed to extreme strain and stress. All SIMONA products have independent third-party monitoring, part of yearly audits from FM Global.
