PE Pipeline Specialists is committed to supplying only fully compliant products that meet the highest industry standards and regulatory requirements. Each gas pipe is fully approved to stringent gas industry standards GIS PL2-2, GIS PL2-6, GIS PL2-8, and is Kitemark™ certified, which we will now explain…
This standard is part of the UK’s Gas Industry Standards (GIS) and specifically relates to polyethylene (PE) pipes for gas mains and services.
PL2-2 covers pipes made from PE80 and PE100 materials, focusing on their performance, quality and suitability for low, medium and intermediate pressure gas networks. It ensures pipes are manufactured to strict tolerances and performance benchmarks for safety and durability.
This standard covers electrofusion fittings for use with PE gas pipes. These fittings are used to join polyethylene pipes using heat and electricity to create a secure, leak-proof weld.
PL2-6 sets out requirements for the design, materials, testing and performance of electrofusion fittings to ensure reliable and consistent connections in gas systems.
PL2-8 relates to mechanical fittings for polyethylene gas pipe systems. These fittings don’t require fusion or welding and are instead tightened or clamped in place.
The standard outlines mechanical strength, leak resistance, and compatibility criteria to make sure the fittings provide a secure, long-lasting joint in PE gas applications.
The Kitemark™ is a third-party certification mark from the British Standards Institution (BSI). It shows a product has been independently tested and meets both British standards and performance benchmarks for quality, safety and reliability.
For PE pipes and fittings, the Kitemark gives extra reassurance that the product consistently complies with the relevant GIS standards, and that manufacturing processes are regularly audited.
